Identified by his village as particularly vulnerable, Open Hand Projects replaced the roof and even glazed his windows!
There was not much left of Eliza’s home, after the storms, just one tiny room behind the straw door was still roofed - the only place for her and her two children to sleep. Eliza’s life is particularly difficult because her daughter is chronically disabled with epilepsy and severe learning difficulties. Despite all that, she cares enough for those just as vulnerable and works hard as one of our volunteers in her local OHP Agri-Garden.
Security is a problem out in the rural areas of Malawi- many can’t afford to fit doors and windows to their houses, and we’ve heard many rumours about child-snatching and attempted rape during the night hours.
Eliza and her new home, weatherproof and secure with a stout wooden door and glazed window.
The roof of Alias’ home was ripped off in a violent storm.
He’s frail and elderly and winter was coming .....
Eliza’s house cost
to build perhaps our most expensive, but not because it’s palatial, just way off the beaten track and the transport of bricks is costly
